Read about Hythe canal in Kent, One of Ricky's Local waters.

Hythe Canal

The Royal Military Canal was first stocked with fish in 1806 and it ‘abounded with large carp, tench, perch, pike, eels and every other species of freshwater fish’. Field officers and some country gentlemen were given permits in the summer to fish from the tow-path side only.

Today, the canal is one of the best areas in Kent for coarse fishing and still has a large quantity and variety of species. From Seabrook to Iden Lock the canal’s waters are club controlled.

The clubs who control each section vary as do the prices, on average its around £5 per adult and £1 per child. The main section in Hythe town centre can get busy with row boats during the summer months.

Fishing I would rate as easy, plenty of Roach and Perch in the town section along with lots of jack Pike around 3lb. Spinning is not permitted in the town section instead you have to head out the marsh. Giggers green is well known for big pike from a place called the "bomb hole" this is a very deep spot near to the bridge at Giggers Green (Giggers green road behind Dymchurch)
