Nash Monster Squid Boilies
Bait manufactures seem to bring out a new bait every 5 minutes to try to catch the angler rather than the fish. Nash baits are a bit different because they don’t rely on having the latest “top angler” or heavy advertising like other big companies need to sell their bait, instead they let the results talk for their selves. Nash baits results include.
• UK MIRROR CARP RECORD
• FIRST UK 60lb + MIRROR CARP • FIRST UK 60lb + COMMON CARP • UK COMMON CARP RECORD • WELSH CARP RECORD • SCOTTISH CARP RECORD • NORTHERN IRELAND CARP RECORD • UK GRASS CARP RECORD • UK LADIES CARP RECORD • BENELUX MIRROR CARP RECORD • BENELUX COMMON CARP RECORD • CANADIAN CARP RECORD • SWEDISH CARP RECORD •SIAMESE CARP RECORD • WORLD CARP MATCH CHAMPION.
As you can see they have an impressive record. Nash achieve this by employing their own chemist, and pump some serious amount of money into research and development. The fact that Gary Bayes (first person to catch a 60lb+ UK Carp, also a Two-Tone Captor) is one of the bosses at Nash Baits means he can put all his experience and “Carp knowledge” into every bait they produce.
Now you know what Nash Baits are all about let me tell you about their latest bait, Monster Squid. Its from their Top Rod range and is based on the classic Monster pursuit (One of Terry Hearn’s favourite baits, I think he caught Mary from Wraysbury on them) Alongside the Monster pursuit base mix there is fishmeal squid and Squid essential extract, the addition of the classic Robin Red gives this bait the colour. This makes up the bulk of the bait, to help give the bait a creamy blend Banana, Scopex and shellfish sense appeal is also added. The final result is a strange creamy, fishy and savoury blend is produced which during the testing of the bait has proved a winner in any season.
Monster Squid boilies are a instant hit with the fish partially because of their HNV qualities and partially because the bait instantly releases a wide range of flavours and scent into the water. This boilie has already been known to catch the “snake Pit common” as well as “Two-Tone” in early 2010.
When I brought my bag of boilies and I opened them I was instantly impressed the smell that these boilies give off is amazing, you know that instantly they are going to be a winner. As always if I am feeding the fish its only right I try the bait as well, so I bit into these little globes of fishy goodness and straight away I could taste the creamy edge to the bait, then the fish flavours come through. The texture was creamy yet crunchy a truly unique quality which I had never come across in a bait before. I decided there and then that my next fishing trip would include these boilies in my armory.
So my next trip soon came around and I was faced with a lake which I know if very silty and it’s easy for baits to get buried in the smelly silt. I baited one rod up with the Monster Squid topped with a bit of fake corn, and the other 2 with Premier Baits Matrix. I have done well on the Matrix before at this particular venue so I was expecting similar results..... How wrong can I be, I sat there for over 24 hours without so much as a touch. I reeled in my Nash bait rod and had a good look at the bait and I could see that I had it buried in silt, however I could still smell the bait so after being submerged for 24 hours in stinky sticky silt the bait was still giving off all them signals to the fish. Whilst I was sitting behind my buried baits I did have a couple of beeps which may well have been fish moving around over my bait trying to find the source of the smell. On my 2nd cast I decided to put on a pva nugget to help keep my hook and bait out of the silt and I also used a small pva bag of crushed boilies. The results were nearly instant and within around a hour or so I had my first run which went screaming off into the distance and the fish decided to spit my hook. This was a situation that repeated it self several times in the next 24 hours.
The final results,
Nash Baits Monster Squid 8 times of interest,
Matrix 11 times of interest (2 rods)
So to summarize, is the bait any good? Well yes its one of the best baits I have used and I would definitely use it in the future, at around £10 a kg its not over priced and there is a range of baits to accompany this included day glo pop ups, Monster Squid Black pop ups, Monster Squid Pop ups. So there is a range of hook presentation options available.
You can tell that a lot of time, effort and money have gone into perfecting this bait. I think it is a great addition to the Nash range. A range that some people was saying had become dated, not enough new releases, not keeping up with the trends.... Well to that I would say, Kevin Nash take as long as you want, no point in releasing some half tested half cocked bait just because another big bait company has released a bait. If every bait company followed the example set by Nash baits, then for a change the companies may catch the fish rather than the angler.
